Gift card settings

When someone buys a gift card from you, the recipient opens a link to a page that shows the amount and the code. That page is part of the theme, and it is often the first thing a new customer sees of your brand. These settings live in Theme settings (the gear icon at the bottom of the theme editor sidebar), in the group called Gift card. Settings here apply store-wide, while options that belong to one section live on that section.

The gift card page is a designed card on a page of its own, without the usual header and footer, so nothing competes with the information the recipient needs. It carries:

  • Your logo, or your store name if you have not uploaded a logo yet.
  • The balance in large type, and the expiry date when the card has one.
  • The code as real, selectable text, with a button that copies it in one click.
  • A QR code, a link back to your store, and a print button.

Because it stands alone, this page does not pick up the styling of your homepage. It takes your fonts, corners, and buttons from your theme settings, and its colors from the one setting below.

  • Color scheme: chooses which of your color schemes paints the gift card page: the page background, the card surface, the text, the frame and divider, and the copy button. Defaults to the first scheme, the same one the rest of the theme starts from.

Pick the scheme that shoppers already associate with you. If your store leads with a dark scheme in the header and footer, using it here makes the gift card feel like part of the same brand the moment it lands in an inbox.

The one thing worth weighing is legibility. The recipient reads a code character by character, and sometimes types it into a checkout field. A scheme with clear separation between text and background makes that effortless, so if one of your schemes is built around a bright accent, a calmer one usually serves this page better. You can adjust the colors inside any scheme on the Colors page.

The gift card page cannot be previewed from the theme editor sidebar, because it only exists once a card exists. Issuing one to yourself takes a minute and shows you exactly what a customer will see.

  1. Issue a gift card to your own email address from your Shopify admin. The Shopify Help Center covers how gift cards are created and sent.
  2. Open the link from the email, ideally on your phone first.
  3. Check that the balance and the code are comfortable to read, and that your logo sits well at the top.
  4. If the scheme feels off, change Color scheme in Theme settings → Gift card, save, and reload the same link.

The gift card page borrows your logo from the theme, so a card is only as polished as the mark above it. If you have not uploaded one yet, or you want a crisper version, see Logo, favicon, and brand basics. Your heading and body fonts carry over automatically, which is what makes the card recognizable even without the full store around it.
